Visiting the UK
A visitor is a person who is coming to the UK, usually for up to six months, for a temporary purpose, for example as a tourist, to visit friends or family or to carry out a business activity.
The visitor rules are set out the Immigration Rules. Non-visa nationals, such as US, Argentina and New Zealand nationals, do not need to apply for a visa for short visits to the UK. They can stay in the UK for up to six months, unless they want to get married or form a civil partnership during their visit. In that case they will have to apply for a special visa.
